Benita Perkins adds New Excitement to Fitness With Gospel Aerobics Video (inspirational dance music, expert instructor, wide range of body types, visually exciting (film), be inspired and motivated.
Bennie Girl Productions’ revolutionary fitness video, “Taking It To A Higher Ground” grooves to gospel dance music with a music video format. “Be Inspired By The Message and Motivated By The Music”, is the doctrine of the video’s producer, Benita Perkins. She leads the way with funky gospel that keeps you moving no matter how tired you are. She is joined by four fitness instructors who span the spectrums of body type, and gender, and bring the video’s groove down to its funkiest level.
Equally as appealing as the music is the video’s visual excitement. Shot in 16MM film, the video provides a realism that contrast sharply with the glossy, two dimensional fitness offerings currently available. Visual surprises include segments of the step and upper body workout, performed on a rooftop with the New York City skyline in the backdrop. The sun and cloud formations give a surreal, heavenly burst to spur even the most die-hard couch potatoes to finish the workout.
In content, the video offers: an energetic, motivational floor warm-up; a step warm-up, although steps are not required at any point in the work out; a breakdown of the step routine in preparation for the cardio party; and the cardio party which is combined with a challenging upper body workout that works every major muscle in the arms and shoulders. Lastly, a funky cool down brings the user back down to earth. In anticipation that the video will be repeatedly used, the choreography balances the line of challenge and simplicity to keep the user motivated.
The video and workout have been featured at several prominent events including the Essence Music Festival, the Alpha Kappa Alpha National Boule, the NAACP National Conventions, Praise Power Celebration, the Indiana Black Expo, the Black Women’s Expo in Biloxi, Mississippi, the Congressional Black Caucus Foundation in Washington, DC, Circle of Sisters Expo, New York City and Sisters for Sisters Expo, Washington, DC, Gospel Music Workshop of America Washington, DC, TD Jakes “Women Thou Art Loosed" Conference, Atlanta, GA, 2001 African American Women on Tour, Atlanta and “The Gathering”, Minneapolis. The video has also been featured on various television and radio shows including interviews on, WDAS AM in Philadelphia, WTLC based out of Atlanta, WPZZ in Indiana, KISS FM in New York City and WPEG in Charlotte, NC, and in Essence Magazine, Heart and Soul Magazine, Gospel Today, Upscale Magazine, Honey Magazine and Today’s Christian Woman. Ms. Perkins also writes monthly fitness e-zine articles for GospelCity.com.
